LDdictionary not working
#21
LitDev,

Looks like your Dictionary change didn't get into LDBasic. Are you still thinking about going to wordnik? Your right, this one has a lot of missing words.

Hi,

LDBasic works for me - you would have to download the update of course.  I updated its version number just now so you should also get the update through EM as an update without downloading directly from my site or uninstalling and reinstalling with EM.

I probably will update the dictionary sometime, but I don't think it is used much.

LitDev,

I only tried loading from Prime, but couldn't get it to load. It would only go from enable to disable. So, I went into lib and deleted the .dll and .xml. Then it loaded!

Yeah, there are issues unloading and loading dlls that are already loaded.  To reliably use EM I tend to restart Prime, then do EM stuff before loading or running any programs.

LitDev,

Here's another listing from deepseek. I asked for a listing with no API key and fee. Number 5 was pretty good.

JR

  1. Merriam-Webster
  2. Oxford Learner's Dictionaries
  3. Cambridge Dictionary
  4. Collins Dictionary
  5. Dictionary.com
  6. The Free Dictionary
  7. WordReference
  8. Wiktionary
  9. Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English
  10. Vocabulary.com
These dictionaries are free to use for general lookup purposes. However, if you plan to use their data programmatically (e.g., for an app or website), you may need to check their terms of service or contact them for permission, as some may require an API key or license for such use.

Number 5 - I don't see an API (something you can use without loading the website)

LitDev,

Here's another site I found. Looks interesting.

https://www.datamuse.com/api/

This has a 100,000 a day limit that I don't think we would hit. No key. Has an API. If you select d in the API it gives a nice output.

LitDev,

Out of all of them I think the best one is:

https://developer.wordnik.com/

At least it looks the best to use and for ease of use. I agree that the dictionary object probably wouldn't be used that much, but in "Small Basic" if we allow objects to quit working then "Small Basic" will just fade away. I think with your extension it is a good programming language for all of us to use. It might be slow, but it can do so much! That is one of the things that you have showed with your extension.

Yep I will go with this one

EDIT

Signed up and had to provide some justification of my use and they say it can take a week to get an API key - we will see...
